Located in the heart of southern Ethiopia’s Gedeo Zone, the Yirgacheffe district sits on a narrow, high-altitude plateau legendary for its dense network of skilled farmers and fiercely competitive processing operations. As one of the original regions in Ethiopia to pioneer fully washed processing, Yirgacheffe stands as a global benchmark for elegance and floral complexity. The Ethiopian government strictly cups every export lot from the region to ensure it exhibits authentic, world-renowned "Yirgacheffe flavor."

The Idido Micro-Region

Idido is central to Yirgacheffe's modern specialty coffee fame. Historically known as "Misty Valley"-named after the dense moisture that rolls over the highlands at night-this micro-region produced some of Ethiopia's earliest trademarked specialty coffees. Today, state-of-the-art washing stations and independent smallholders in Idido craft highly traceable micro-lots that showcase the region's unique microclimate and heirloom varieties.

Brewing Recommendations

This elegant washed coffee shines brightest in pour-over methods (such as Hario V60, Chemex, or Kalita Wave), which accentuate its delicate floral bouquet and shimmering fruit acidity. Enjoyed black, it yields an extraordinarily clean, tea-like cup with lingering floral aromas.
